Storytelling: A Way to Connect

We all have witnessed an amazing presentation made by someone in our speech class, but what makes him or her stand out from the rest? It’s the way they decide to organize their ideas and narrate their story that makes them a great speaker. How a story is told is more important than who is telling the story. For instance, during a trial, if a defendant’s side of the story is more compelling than the plaintiff’s, he is more likely to get his freedom, even if he did commit the crime. (more…)

A Sip of the Contrast Principle

All future professionals, regardless of the major, have one thing in common: a thirst for knowledge. We like researching about different fields in our major, possible jobs, average salaries and so on. We google everything. However, we sometimes forget about a good source of information: books. In the marketing field, I truly recommend Influence: the Psychology of Persuasion. The book, written by Robert Cialdini, states the most important principles of persuasion. If you master these techniques, you will be able to sell even the most common blue pen. In the book, Cialdini explains the psychology behind customer’s behaviors. He provides a better understanding of influence and he gives tips on how to avoid being persuaded under these principles. Although marketing and psychology might seem to be very different fields, they are directly correlated. If you understand customer’s reactions, you will be able to cause those reactions. (more…)

Marketers’ primary focus is catching the attention of a specific audience. However, the most difficult part is actually retaining their interest, which is where customer satisfaction comes in. Having the customer’s approval is the smear of your bagel. Customers are the forefront of any marketing strategy. If we do not exceed customers’ expectations, they simply would not repeat the business, or at least not with you.
